Quilting on Miss Lizzie

Amidst the hurriedness of the season I have been blessed to spend several days sewing. I now have my second sewing room up and running. I have my serger, "Miss Lizzie" ( my sit down quilting machine) and another machine set up just for piecing in that space, In my original sewing room across the hall I have my Viking Designer SE set up for embroidery connected to my laptop so I can create and stitch out beautiful designs. I am so blessed to have all this space to work in. I have two cutting areas and a big recliner to sit in to do hand work in my new room. It is so nice to be able to leave all my machine up and ready to use for when I get the urge to sew, embroidery, piece or quilt!!

I love this design. It stitched out beautifully. I framed it for a friend for Christmas. Love it!!
I want to show you the first two "large" quilts that I completed on Miss Lizzie. I am so thrilled to be moving into the quilting realm. For years I pieced plenty of quilts but sent them all out to Long Arm Quilters. Last year I began getting the "bug" to DO IT MYSELF!!! I got Miss Lizzie in June but was unable to really use her until this fall. I am so happy to have her. Jeff wanted me to get it and now it is a connection to him everytime I use it. Thank you Lord for that Blessing!
This quilt top was pieced by my 84 year old mother as a "Practice Piece" and initiation into quilting larger quilts. It is full size. It was great to learn on because she pieced it in rows and I could quilt along each row from the center out.

I practiced my feathers on the border. It was fun!! Defiantly scrappy. A quilt to be used and snuggled under! I gave it to my neighbor. She lost her mother recently so this was to help in her time of grief. Something I know first hand. Quilts just make you feel better....like a great big hug!

Next Mom made a King Size Dresden Plate top. It is colorful and just makes you happy. I quilted each plate block first with Mctavishing. A great place to practice. Then I practiced more feathers in the sashings.

This will be a combined gift from both of us to my nephew, (Mom's grandchild) and his soon to be wife. I think it is neat that two generation of the family worked together on this very special wedding gift.
I hope you are finding time to do the things you like to do during this busy season. I AM!!
A little baking makes it even better!!
May your day be wonderful and blessed!!

Happy Trails,

Mtn Mama
