Almost Heaven West Viginia.
My vacation week continues as I traveled to West Virginia to be with friends and family. The weather has been great this week with high's in the 70's and low 80's with lots of sunshine during the day. We have been staying in the mountains touring lots of "old familiar" places.
The first day I met my college roommate and we toured our alma mater on a beautiful sunny morning reliving lots of fun memories. This was our freshman dorm where we first started our friendship that has lasted 40 years. Thank you Lord for Debby....she has been a gift straight from your heart to me!!!
We spent lots of time in State Parks and Forrest's. West Virginia is such a beautiful state. I loved picnicing, playing in the parks and wading the creeks and streams. Debby brought me a very special birthday cake....such a surprise!! It was from my favorite bakery that I learned to love while in college. Bonnie Bell cakes are the best!! We also had fresh Pepperoni Rolls that Debby picked up that morning. YUM!!
Of course there were Quilt Shops involved. A little shopping was in order in Elkins, WV. I found great fabric and some neat toweling to use for gifts. Always love looking at new shops along the way!!
After lunch and shopping we headed to the high country. Snowshoe Mountain is where Jeffrey and David taught me to ski over 35 years ago. Sweet Memories.
A rest stop on the Scenic Highway. Mom and Pop Burford with the two oldest Burford siblings.
We ended the day with a delightful dinner on the deck of a tavern overlooking the Greenbrier River. David, Mary, Mom and Dad ready for supper!!
Beautiful scenery included a hand-painted building across from where we had dinner.
Wild, Wonderful West Virginia....will always hold my heart. More to come tomorrow!!
Happy Trails,
Mtn Mama
Looks like you're having a great vacay! Loved that painted building.
